PROPERTY OWNERS' ASSOCIATION

Talented residents present special POA programs

By Paige Schweizer, Director

Horseshoe Bay has a reputation for living life to the fullest.  The Horseshoe Bay Property Owners’ Association tries to make this recognition well deserved. We may be a small community in terms of population, but it is probably one of the most vibrant communities on the planet and can boast of amazingly motivated, talented, energetic and altruistic individuals!

The following programs are held conveniently at Quail Point through the POA and run by volunteers for the enjoyment and enrichment of all Horseshoe Bay residents.

Dinner Bingo is organized by Dianne Jones (598-4528) and meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.  The doors at Quail Point are open at 5:30 and dinner which is catered for $7 a head is served about 6 p.m.  Bring your friends, drinks and get ready to yell “BINGO”!  It is open to all Horseshoe Bay residents.

Bridge Club is organized by Louraine Robertson (598-6660) and meets every Monday at 1 p.m.  From beginner to proficient, this group provides an opportunity to meet all levels of bridge players.  The more experienced bridge players are most helpful, supportive and invite constructive questions or review of hands.

Ballroom Dance classes are given by Mary Daniel (596-0035) on Thursday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m.  Mary is an accomplished performer who is eager to introduce you to the art of ballroom dancing or just refine the more intricate movements.

The International Group meets on the second Sunday of each month.  Lourdes Langston (598-1322) would be delighted to hear of your interest.  Guest speakers and good food make for an informative and congenial meeting. Your interest and presence will be most welcome.

•  Yoga/Pilates meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m.  Dianne Jones is an assiduous, knowledgeable and pleasant instructor who views Pilates as a labor of love. This class is one of the best ways to enjoy a beneficial workout while in the company of others who are striving to achieve the same goals.  The camaraderie, support and end results are worth working into your schedule!

The Woodcarvers group meet on Tuesday mornings in the poker room.  It only takes a block of wood and one knife to participate!  If a knife scares you, pick up a pair of Kevlar gloves and fear not!  You will find Les Fenter at 598-8683 most welcoming and eager to share his tips, knowledge and interesting conversation.  The finished products are amazing.  Beginners are encouraged.  Give Les a call…you will not be disappointed!

Men’s Poker meets on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. hosted by Tom Engler (596-7077).  Call him and let him know you are interested.  I am sure there is some interesting conversation along with a possible opportunity to take home the “big pot.”

Texas Hold’Em is held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  Currently an average of 14 to 16 individuals fills the two tables and word is spreading rapidly among HSB residents.  The best part is that ladies are welcome and truly enjoy this game!   George Fielding (596-8460) would be happy to hear from you.

The above activities are made possible by our gifted and talented resident volunteers. If you have an interest in starting a new group, please call the POA office at 598-8795.  What a great way to meet new residents or share an afternoon or evening with a friend or new acquaintance.  Please let the POA office know if you have heard of any interest in forming a “game board” afternoon or evening.  Your POA Special Programs representative will help get it off the ground.

Quail Point is also home to the South Llano County Republican Women’s Meetings, smaller private bridge and poker groups, private parties, and wedding receptions.  Several homeowner associations also use Quail Point as their meeting place.  Quail Point can be rented by any property owner in good standing.

The POA sponsors the Annual Horseshoe Bay Clean Up Day on April 22 with a barbeque following for all participants at Quail Point Park.

The POA sponsors the eagerly anticipated and well attended July 4th Celebration followed by entertainment, activities and food at Quail Point Park.  All are invited to participate in the land and/or boat parade or support those participants by lining the streets of Horseshoe Bay waving flags.

Taking advantage of the existing programs or starting a new program will find your life enriched with new experiences, fun challenges and new friendships.  You have to admit, Horseshoe Bay is unsurpassed when it comes to hospitality, activities and unique support.
